Heine Christensen:
Artista

An image has the potential to express that which words can not. The abstract painting communicates without the conventional common languages, and more openly leaves the interpretation to the viewer. In my work I disregard figures and motives, and think that lets the abstract painting speak more freely and more importantly let the spectator experience more freely. I feel that the abstract painting has more in common with a musical piece than with other fine arts, and coming from a background as an electronic musician, I try to use that in my work.

For the last 7 years I’ve been studying textures and the techniques to translate these onto canvas or wood using different materials and colors. I have no interest in motives but only wish to work with discovering textures and how they can interact with each other and with the colors. By doing this I inevitably end up with what could be described as compositions. These are often very simple and add tension or balance to the painting. My most profound tool when painting or sculpturing the images is loosing control. This requires quite an effort but I feel that loss of control is necessary to obtain access to the subconscious and let instinct and intuition rule. But I can’t ignore the fact that my paintings are in the final stages structured with a lot of accuracy and precision, to enhance details.

I sometimes use photography as a media to capture images that I later interpret into paintings. I’m fascinated by electronic music, science, architecture and cityscapes as well as the wearing of time and the change of time. I feel that my paintings often capture a momentary emotion sort of like a snapshot of time and maintain it within.
