Matthias was born in 1981 in Paris. At the age of 18 his father gave for his first PENTAX film camera. He studied graphical design in the Superior School of Publicity of Madrid in 2002, and followed this with a formation of photography in Paris in 2003. Matthias finished his studies of techniques and direction with companies in Bordeaux in 2004 specialising as cultural patron for the company.
Matthias is a great admirer of the work of Martin Parr, Lee Friandler, Elliott Erwitt, Hashem the Madani and Rineke Dijkstra. He uses a Canon 30D to photograph people and her customs and likes to study his subjects to help him better understand them. For him, to photograph somebody is the same as photographing art work: it is done with respect and curiosity.
He has also worked on a postal project of Europe, published by urbarna.com.
Using instinct and a different way of looking at things, he shoots people logically. Thus, when it came to collaborated in a exhibition of his family, he decided to take photos of his mother next to the family fridge. According to him “the mothers and the refrigerators reflect the essence of a family”. Also, when he worked for the Metro in Paris, he presented/displayed a project of pictures of travellers speaking about their dreams.
Not just art, he would like his work to comment on people and society.
