Gracia Arts Project

Ellie Kreischer:
Artista

I grew up painting in my attic on dusty canvas I found behind the chimney and a box of acrylic paint I bought at a yard sale with my allowance money. I have always made art out of whatever has come my way; I collect beautiful things from the woods and keep them in jars, a scour yard sales for strange objects, and I have scrapbooks filled with bits of papers I find. The trouble is always trying to figure out what to do with all of it. In Barcelona its old things I find on the street and at the markets. Recently I have satisfied my small obsession with other people´s lives not by watching reality tv but by exploring the Encants Market to find old photos. I love piecing together the lives of strangers through scraps and snapshots. I have currently been working with these photos to reconstruction meanings and plots out of the images through paint, pen, and collage. When I´m not dumpster diving, I´m teaching Elementary art at an international school with my students who serve as my inspiration.
