Ṃnica Chavarria : Escultora
Ṃnica Chavarria was born in Barcelona. She came into contact with art at a very young age and it has been part of her life ever since. She studied at Barcelona Fine Arts University, specialising in sculpture, and went on to further develop her knowledge of sculpture, engraving, drawing and casting at the Escola Massana.
Her artistic trajectory has travelled many and varied paths as she seeks an individual style, a personal language, that goes from figurative expression to geometric construction, passing through the abstract that comes from the observation and analysis of the natural world.
In the field of sculpture, she has worked with almost all available materials including clay, iron, bronze, wood, stone, concrete and resins and their respective techniques. She has expanded her horizons by taking on board a raft of specialist courses including metal work and welding at the Gremi de Serrallers de Catalunya, bronze casting at the Escola Massana, relief sculpture in Delfos (Greece) and stone sculpting at the Centro Internacional de Escultura de Pero Pinheiro (Portugal).
She has always worked as a professional in this field, either as a creative artist or as an art teacher. She has won various awards from the Catalan and other Spanish regional governments. Her work has been shown in Spain, Greece, Portugal, Japan and Brazil.
Nowadays, she is a teacher at the Escola Massana and is currently undertaking a PhD course at the Fine Arts University in Barcelona.
