Paul de Bie :
Artist

Marie Paul de Bie (Groningen, the Netherlands, 1973) studied at the Minerva School of Fine Arts in Groningen, where he specialised in lithography and drawing. On completing his degree in 1998, his work was nominated for the Hendrik de Vries Stipendium. In 1999, he was commissioned to create a series of sculptures for the central garde of the Academic Hospital of Groningen. Since then, his interests have shifted towards painting, and in June 2004 a collection of his paintings were exhibited at the Horst-Janssen-Museum in Oldenburg, Germany.

Exploring de psychology of his subjects, De Bie`s early work has the stamp of technical precision reminiscent of the old masters and the Neue Sachlichkeit movement of the 20th century. Lately there has been a clear change towards a more spontaneous and expressive way of painting clearly inspired by his friendship with the Spanish painter Luis Vigil.

De Bie is the first-born of four artist-children. Next to himself the family consists of a photographer, a fashion-artist an a sculptor who last year made it to national TV with one of their family-exhibitions in which they included work of their great-grandfather, a well known Belgian photographer in the beginning of last century.

De Bie worked in Paris, Antwerp and is currently living in Barcelona, where he has his studio.
